Logs are the raw form of wood in Lumber Tycoon 2. Logs can be obtained by chopping trees with any (compatible) axe. The resultant logs then act similarly to loose objects; being able to be picked up and carried (usually to a Sawmill or the Wood Dropoff at Wood R Us). After processing the log with a sawmill, the log becomes a plank of the same wood type, significantly increasing its value. Logs, unlike planks, will not be saved as part of the player's base and any logs on the player's plot as the player exits the game will remain on the ground and can be claimed by another player or, otherwise, will despawn after a period of time.

Sawmilling[]

Logs have an outer bark layer and an inner core. The core is usually of a lighter color than the bark (there are exceptions, however, such as walnut wood) and the core is always the color of its planks. Some logs can be very long or thick, leading to potential difficulty with sawmilling, especially with lower-end sawmills. With the exception of the Sawmax 02L, which can mill logs 16 units in length, logs must be under 10 units in length to fit into a sawmill. The width of log that can fit into a sawmill depends on the sawmill used: The Sawmax 02 is able to accommodate the majority of logs, while only thinner logs will be millable with lower-end sawmills. Even though the Sawmax 02 and 02L both have the largest opening currently in the game, some wood types, such as Lava, Walnut, Koa, Phantom, Cavecrawler, Spook and Sinister Wood, can be difficult to fit into these sawmills, usually requiring the player to angle or force the wood in, or do the "Move + back" glitch. So far, Phantom, Snowglow and Palm trees are the only trees that have a different core texture to their respective planks.
