To turn logs into planks, the player must insert the log (with a maximum of 10.9 units except for the Sawmax 02L) in the loading hole of the sawmill and when the sawmill is done, it will release planks.
One of the features of sawmills is the "BLOCKAGE" indicator which alerts the player by lighting up the BLOCKAGE lights on the front of the sawmill that it will not release the planks until the blockage in front of the unloading hole is cleared. Another feature is the "Plank Cross Section", which is used to change the width and length of the planks when released. To make a plank wider, press the --> button of X, and <-- to decrease. To make a plank taller, press the --> button of Y, and <-- to decrease.
A miscellaneous feature of the sawmill is the concrete plate on its bottom, which can be walked through.
